| Why
children behave in certain ways?
Do
you think our kids want to disappoint us or please us if they
can?
Do
we understand the individual difference of our kids and handle
them accordingly?
Can
we challenge the child's developmental growth by keeping their
individual differences in mind? |

We've
Lived It !
As we begin this guide, let us introduce ourselves. We are two
moms who have been implementing the Developmental, Individual-Difference,
Relationship-based (D.I.R.) model, often referred to as Floor
Time, with our sons for over seven and ten years.
We
have implemented comprehensive home-based D.I.R. programs. We
began with intensive home-based programs that have evolved into
successful inclusion in school and other peer and social activities.
While we continue to work with our children in specific and important
ways, we feel that because of the programs we implemented, our
children have "made it to the other side."
We also want to state at the beginning of this guide, that while
we pursued D.I.R in its entirety to great success, elements of
the D.I.R. model can be integrated into any program you put together
for your child.
There
is great value to the D.I.R. program even if you do not incorporate
the entire program. |
